Description
In an attempt to put the tragedy of Wyoming behind him, Karl Shoemaker and his faithful companion, a hundred and twenty pound Rottweiler, have been roaming the North American continent for five years. Now their odyssey has brought them to this small town on the South Carolina coast, where they plan to spend one night. But the dead girl found in Winyah Bay changes Shoemaker's mind. And in the midst of the town's frenzy he gets a call that his best friend has just been murdered in Germany. Now two separate mysteries entangle the college professor. Or could they possibly be related?
Reviews
"Mr. Hoppe provides an engrossing narrative, following a widower seeking murderers through small, southern Georgetown, SC and urban and suburban Cologne, Germany. The reader can feel the atmospheres of these very different1 locales and their effects on the amateur detective. The book explores the dark sides of small town life and professional sports as our protagonist uncovers his quarry and his future. A compelling read with a well-hidden conclusion."

Pawleys Island
A well-structured story placed in the deep South as well as Cologne, Germany with interesting characters from both locales. Intriguing episodes throughout the mystery keep the reader entertained until its surprise ending.

Werner Hoppe's story line is set between two continents and is interwoven into a fast paced, interesting tale that draws to a surprise conclusion. Anyone should be able to relate to his well-developed characters from South Carolina's low country, as well as their European counterparts.
